10 facts you didn’t know about Gugu Zulu


South African race car driver Gugu Zulu died this morning, Monday (July 18) at 38 during a Trek4Mandela campaign on Mount Kilimanjaro. In memory of the fastest brother in Africa, here are ten facts you probably didn’t know about Gugu.

1. Gugulethu “Gugu” Zulu was born in Soweto on May 13 1978.

2. Gugu began his racing career in 1999 and was affectionately known as “the fastest brother in Africa”.

3. He won three awards in 2001 namely Guinness Achievement Award, Wesbank and Goodyear Star of Tomorrow awards.

4. Gugu presented local motoring show Car Torque in 2005.

5. He was featured in Hollyword movies, Lord of War (2005).

6. Gugu was appointed as the Commercial Manager for A1 Team South Africa in August 2007.

7. He was one of the contestants on the SABC2 show Strictly Come Dancing in 2008.

8. Gugu was married to biokineticist and reality TV star Letshego Moshoeu.

9. He was a Wings for Life World Run ambassador.

10. He went to Kilimanjaro with his wife, Letshego, and other celebrities including OG Molefe and Penny Lebyane for their Keep a Girl Child in School project as part of giving back for this year’s Nelson Mandela Day.
