10 Facts You Didn’t Know About Cynthia Shange


Cynthia Shange is a South African veteran  model and actress best known for her recurring role as Mankosi (Thandaza’s mother) on SABC2 popular soapie drama Muvhango.

Here are facts things you didn’t know about Cynthia Shange:

1. Cynthia Shange was born in 1949 at Lamontville near Durban in Kwa-Zulu Natal.

2. Cynthia has four children namely, Sihle, Archie, Banele and television personality and actress, Nonhle Thema.

3. She is the first black beauty queen to represent South Africa at Miss World pageant in 1972
4. She started modeling in 1970 and won several titles.
5. She was crowned Miss Natal 1972.
6. She won the Miss Black South Africa title and that made her the first Black beauty queen to win a Miss South Africa title.
7. She has a role as “Mkabi” in the five part mini-series Shaka Zulu and co-starred alongside the late Henry Cele in 1986.
8. Cynthia had a role in SA’s first black feature film, Udeliwe, alongside co-star Joe Mafela.
9. She was awarded the Golden Horn Lifetime Achievement Award by South African Film and Television Awards in 2009.
10. Cynthia had a role on Mzansi Magic soapie drama Zabalaza as the mother of Kgomotso, played by her real daughter Nonhle in 2015.
