The ‘King of the Beasts’ is a worldwide icon for its strength and beauty, but the pack behaviour and plight of the species is relatively unknown. In ‘Killer IQ: Lion vs Hyena’ ‘lion whisperer’ Kevin Richardson and a team of experts will examine the behaviour of lions and hyenas as they tackle tailored challenges such as puzzle boxes, rope pulling and mirror mazes.

Will they share their new knowledge with animals from their own group? In the brand new series ‘The Lion Queen’, follow Andi Rive and her mission to save the Glengarriff Lion Reserve. When Andi first visited the farm she fell in love with its majestic inhabitants. She abandoned her old city life, devoting herself to tending a pride of lions while raising awareness about a species facing extinction. Aided by fellow lion lover Kathy Murrell and a couple of farm hands, ‘The Lion Queen’ is an intimate account of a group of women whose passion for wildlife has led them to take on a monumental responsibility.

Animal Cops Houston / Premiere

For creatures great or small, the ‘Animal Cops Houston’ taskforce are knights in shining armour. Follow the work of the Houston SPCA Cruelty Investigation Unit as they rescue, rehabilitate and re-home unwanted, neglected or abused animals. The team is headed up by Chief Investigator Charles Jantzen and SPCA President Patti Mercer while an eight-strong team of specially-trained investigators are on standby 24/7 to respond to emergency calls and cruelty reports. In this series, there’s the huge task of removing birds from a live and dangerous crime scene, and a dog needs rescuing from barbed wire. Debbie Michelson intervenes with a family overrun by dogs, a case of horses with shocking injuries leads to a stand-off, and investigators find themselves tackling one of their biggest ever hoarding cases – a collection of 120 cats.
