In the space of a few months, Ashlinn Gray has gone from “the girl next door” to local superstar. At age 18, the young starlet has blossomed into a dedicated, hard-working and talented singer songwriter, who is not afraid to take the risk if it means reaching her dreams.
Already on the road to success, Gray has received mass attention from both local and international big weights, with the hope that her follow-up single, Risking It All, will help infiltrate international markets, while continuing to excel on home base.
She has already received rave reviews and her debut single, Battleships, charted on various stations across the country. Her sound has been described as Shinga Shoniwa from the Noisettes mixed in with Ariana Grande, making her a fresh new sound that is successfully cutting through the noise.
Proudly South African, Gray’s aim is to produce world class music that will put South Africa on the world map. Risking It All is the perfect track for this purpose. A catchy pop number with folk/country influences, Gray sings about her rise to stardom and the risks that come with it.
Gray is not only a force to be reckoned with, but someone who lives and breathes music. She has chosen a difficult path and as such has sacrificed an ordinary life for a life less ordinary. At 18-years-old, she has had to home school in order to dedicate herself to a career in music.
Gray began writing her very first songs at age 16. Through persistence and hard work, she is finally seeing her dream come to life. Her self-titled debut EP has just been released and a full length album is set for release later in 2015.
