South Africa’s ace women athlete, Caster Semenya, scooped the GSport Spar Women in Sport “Athlete of the Year Award”.
The glittering ceremony was held on Saturday night in Johannesburg.
Present at the awards ceremony was amongst others, Minister of Sport and Recreation, Fikile Mbalula.
She also won the Sport Ministerial Recognition Award.
In her brief speech, Semenya was very grateful to the support that she received from South Africans, and said she was very proud to be a South African.
She also appreciated the support the she received from her wife, Violet, and her trainer.
Semenya won the gold medal in the recent Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil.
