Celebrating local talent with SAFTA winners

sestoplaIt is with great pride that we heard of the SAFTA (South African Film and Television Awards) winners. Why you might ask?

Well, apart from the SAFTA’s helping to promote just how awesome our talent is in this country of ours, we are proud to have been a small part – well, a big part but more on that later – in some of the winners’ productions, and in a lot of the nominees’ productions.

So, to refresh your mind on the who won what and why, in the category of Best Actress in a Lead Role – TV Comedy, Mary Mhlongo from the hit show, Skwizas 3, took home the award. For best supporting actress in a TV comedy – Brenda Ngxzoli from Ses’Top La II received the nod. And for Best supporting actor in a TV comedy – from Ses’Top La II, Warren Masemola was recognised for the amazing talent that he is.

We are proud to say that all three of these wonderful performers could be seen sitting on set in our bigger studios, relaxing in our greenrooms, or being made up in one of our make-up rooms.

Our contribution was through the provision of our studios where roughly 400m² of set was built in and hosted in our 560m² studio for each of the productions as well as the provision of on-site editing suites, catering venue, secure parking, uninterrupted power and… well, like we said – a fairly big part, and we’d like to think that in some small way we made a difference. Whether it was because of the tremendous history of the studios, the brand new facilities, or just the fact that we’re becoming home for these top award-winning series, you decide.

We also want to take this opportunity to congratulate the nominees – as to simply be recognised by the SAFTAs is a celebration in its own right:

In the category: Best Supporting Actor – TV Comedy, Craig Jackson (Gaylard): Kota Life Crisis, Jamela Vuma (Intelligent): Ses’Top la II, Bongani Madondo (Cassius): Kota Life Crisis. Shot back to back in our biggest studio, their antics on screen were amazing to watch.

In the category of Best Actress in a Lead role in a TV comedy, Motlatji Ditodi (Baby Kota): Kota Life Crisis, Tsholo Monedi (Tiny): Skwizas 3, Busisiwe Lurayi (Phumzile): Ses’Top la II, and Lilian Dube (Mmane): Skwizas were all nominated.

Seeing these great performers arriving for early calls and still leaving with smiles and laughter was a humbling experience.

And finally in the hotly contested category, Best Actor in a Lead role – TV Comedy, the nomination went to Mackmillian Leshumo (Voni) in Kota Life Crisis.

We truly feel proud of the winners and nominees from this year’s SAFTAs. As the studio facilities division of Global Access it makes us aware of just how magical our lives are, and just what a difference we can make if we all work together on our productions regardless of role.
