‘Free State’ movie to hit local cinemas on April 27


Good news for South African film fans! The award-winning movie, Free State is making its way to the local big screen on April 27.

The film was written and directed by Sallas de Jager and is about an Afrikaans woman who falls in love with an Indian man in the 1970s – but their love is illegal according to the apartheid Immorality Act.

The leading actors in the new film are Leleti Khumalo, Andrew Govender, Deon Lotz, Keith Gengadoo, Suraya-Rose Santos, Mangesh Desai, Nicola Breytenbach and Rolanda Marais.

The movie is expected to premiere Wednesday, April 27 at Cinemas country wide.

FYI: Free State won best cinematography award at the Garden State Film Festival in New York just weeks after winning the best director award at the Luxor African Film Festival.
