Gareth Cliff fired by Idols SA, reportedly over racist remarks

It’s confirmed! Gareth Cliff is fired by Idols SA. M-Net confirmed this morning Saturday, January 09th that Gareth would no longer be part of the Idols SA judging panel.

The 38-years old television personality has been an Idols SA judge since 2005 from season 3.

“M-Net today (08th January) announced that Gareth Cliff will not be part of the judging panel for Idols SA Season 12, which is due to commence with countrywide auditions at the end of January 2016.,” a statement from the company read. “We do not believe that Gareth is a racist but his response showed a lack of empathy for our history and it is important to differentiate between freedom of speech and hate speech. Penny Sparrow’s comments were hateful. Hate speech is not applicable with regard to freedom of speech.”

There are reports that claim the firing happened because he weighed in on the Penny Sparrow saga after the former estate agent called black beach goers at Durban’s beaches, monkeys.

    Gareth Cliff never did something like that. That all lies he’s not racist. He loves everyone like all the judges. PLEASE BRING BACK GARETH
