Get set for fabulosity with exciting viewing on TLC Entertainment this May

Get your dancing shoes on and taste buds ready for appetite wetting and shedding viewing on TLC Entertainment (DStv 172) this month, including the premiere of a brand new series Girl, Get Your Mind Right.

The much-anticipated My Big Fat Fabulous Life, premiering on Wednesday, 6 May at 20:00 follows the exploits of Whitney Thore, who weighs an incredible 172kg while standing just over 1.5 metres tall. Not long ago, she was a slight 50kg dancer, but after being diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome she gained more than 45kg in just nine months – and because of the disorder, the weight gain only continued to get worse.

But when her self-choreographed performance of ‘A Fat Girl Dancing’ became an overnight sensation, she was plucked from obscurity and her life was turned upside down. With a new, fresh outlook on everything, Whitney is making wholesale changes in her life: she’s dating more than ever before, pursuing an aggressive dance schedule despite her weight, and trying to make a name for herself in a world that judges people for their size.

Some of the country’s top Michelin-starred chefs will take on the challenge of transforming cooks plucked from greasy spoons, pubs and cafés in a bid to make them world class in the premiere of Best Chef, Worst Chef. Each episode from Monday, 11 May at 20:55 charts the ups and downs of one protégé as they attempt to learn all they can from their mentors in just three weeks, before being sent abroad to one of Europe’s top restaurants to put their skills to the test. Can they pass themselves off as a consummate commis chef or will the pressure prove too much?

This new series My 600lb Life follows the lives of eight people, each weighing over 600 pounds, through a yearlong journey as they collectively try to lose thousands of pounds. Premiering on Friday, 22 May at 20:00, each episode will tell the powerful story of a different individual who has made the decision to undergo a dangerous gastric bypass surgery in an effort to save their life and change their world forever.

In this series, follow the trials and tribulations of Amber, Susan, Pauline, Bettie Jo and four others dangerously close to death because of their extreme obesity.

What does author and media personality Tionna Tee Smalls know about relationships? Essentially, that women need to “get their mind right” prior to embarking on them. In each episode of Girl, Get Your Mind, Smalls takes one woman under her wing in an effort to improve her love life.

She uses a frank approach to get a handle on her subject’s issues: visiting their hometown, talking to their friends and taking a tour of their home. After a heart-to-heart that includes some “straight up dating advice”, the subject is given a makeover before putting their newfound knowledge to the test and going on a date. Will loves losers have taken on board Tionna’s advice, or will their love lives fail to get off the ground?

Don’t miss the premiere on Thursday, 28 May at 20:00.
