Hostages on SABC3

Hostages_27x40_f8bb220From executive producers Jerry Bruckheimer (Pirates of the Caribbean films, CSI series) and Jeffrey Nachmanoff (Chicago Fire), and based upon an Israeli format, HOSTAGES is a thrilling and suspenseful new series premiering on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at 21:30 on SABC3.

Hostages is about a family caught in the middle of a grand political conspiracy that will change their lives forever. Starring Emmy® and Golden Globe winner Toni Collette (The United States of Tara, The Sixth Sense, Muriel’s Wedding), Tate Donovan (Argo, Damages, The O.C.), Rhys Coiro (Entourage, 24, Straw Dogs [2011]), Sandrine Holt (House of Cards, Underworld: Awakening, The L Word), Billy Brown (The Following, Sons of Anarchy, Dexter, Lights Out), Quinn Shephard (Unaccompanied Minors, Harrison’s Flowers), Mateus Ward (Lab Rats, NCIS, Weeds), Tony Award winner James Naughton (Gossip Girl, Factory Girl, The Devil Wears Prada) and Golden Globe winner and Emmy® nominee Dylan McDermott (American Horror Story, The Practice, Dark Blue, In the Line of Fire).

In Hostages, Dr. Ellen Sanders (Collette), a top surgeon in Washington, D.C., has been tapped to operate on the President of the United States … and then kill him. Ellen is used to the pressures of the job, and it is her steady nature and hand that has elevated her career and made her the choice of President Kincaid (Naughton). Yet when masked men invade the Sanders home the night before the operation and take Ellen hostage, along with her husband, Brian (Donovan), and two children, Morgan (Shephard) and Jake (Ward), threatening to harm them unless Ellen does as they ask, Ellen’s calm is rocked to the core. Her husband, hiding secrets of his own, is not much help.

Ellen will do anything to protect her family … as will Duncan Carlisle (McDermott), a righteous FBI agent and hero who is at the center of a conspiracy involving the President. The chief hostage taker, Duncan will fight for his cause at any cost — even if it means putting another family at risk. Duncan’s highly skilled accomplices include his brother-in-law Kramer (Coiro), whose loyalty to Carlisle will be tested; quick-tempered and intimidating Archer (Brown), an ex-military man with a razor-sharp tongue; and Sandrine (Holt), a mysterious last-minute replacement on the team. With her family’s life in peril, Ellen faces an incomprehensible moral dilemma. As tensions mount and she fights for time before suiting up for surgery, it becomes clear that the outwardly idyllic Sanders family isn’t as perfect as originally thought — nor are their captors as evil as one might suspect.

Recurring guest stars this season include Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio (Without a Trace, The Color of Money, Scarface) as the First Lady, and Hilarie Burton (One Tree Hill, White Collar, Grey’s Anatomy) as Brian’s mistress, Samantha.

In addition to Bruckheimer and Nachmanoff, Hostages is executive produced by Jonathan Littman (CSI series, The Amazing Race, Cold Case, Without a Trace), Rick Eid (CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Law & Order, Conviction, The Guardian), Omri Givon, Rotem Shamir and Chaim Sharir, and co-executive produced by KristieAnne Reed (Dark Blue, Chase, The Whole Truth) and Alon Aranya. Developed by Alon Aranya and Jeffrey Nachmanoff, the series is based upon the series Hostages produced for Israeli television by Chaim Sharir, created by Omri Givon and Rotem Shamir.

Just how far would you go to save your family…? Stay tuned for all the suspense and drama in Hostages every Tuesday at 9:30pm on SABC3 to find out.
