Hot drama series UnREAL to premier in Africa in July

lifetimeLifetime’s hot new drama UnREAL, starring Shiri Appleby (Girls, Chicago Fire) and Constance Zimmer (House of Cards, The Newsroom, Grey’s Anatomy), will premiere on Monday, 20 July at 20:45 on Lifetime, channel 131 on DStv.

The 10 episode, one-hour provocative drama, that gives a fictitious behind-the-scenes glimpse into the chaos surrounding the production of a TV dating competition programme, was created by Marti Noxon (Mad Men, Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce, Grey’s Anatomy, Glee) and Sarah Gertrude Shapiro. It was inspired by Shapiro’s 2013 award-winning independent short film Sequin Raze.

Set against the backdrop of the fictional hit dating competition show Everlasting, UnREAL is led by flawed heroine Rachel Goldberg (Appleby), a young producer whose sole job is to manipulate her relationships with, and among, the contestants to get the vital dramatic and outrageous footage that the programme’s dispassionate executive producer, Quinn King (Zimmer), demands. What ensues is an eye-opening take on the outrageous world of unscripted television, where being a contestant can be vicious and being a producer is a whole other reality.

UnREAL also stars Craig Bierko (Damages) as Everlasting’s eccentric creator, Chet, and Freddie Stroma (Pitch Perfect) as the dating show’s handsome and intelligent suitor, Adam Cromwell. Other regular cast members include Josh Kelly (One Life to Live), Siobhan Williams (Black Box), Nathalie Kelley (The Fast and the Furious), Johanna Braddy (Shameless), Breeda Wool (Betas) and Ashley Scott (Jericho). Arielle Kebbel (The Vampire Diaries) guest stars as Britney, a contestant who has no filter and isn’t on Everlasting to make any friends.

UnREAL is produced by A+E Studios. Noxon executive produces while Shapiro serves as supervising producer. Sally DeSipio (Do Over) and Robert M. Sertner (Revenge) executive produce and Stacy Rukeyser (Twisted) is co-executive producer.

UnREAL begins its African premiere on Monday, 20 July at 20:45 on Lifetime, channel 131 on DStv.
