This winter Muvhango viewers should brace themselves for more drama, romance and bickering as more faces join the soapie/drama. Rantebeng Makapan is the latest newcomer and has already started shooting with Muvhango. He appears from Friday, 1 May, playing the role of Morapedi Mojalefa.
Morapedi Mojalefa is nothing like his little sister. They are three years apart, and do not share the same things in life. He is as pessimistic as they come where she is an optimist. When their parents’ businesses took a knock, Morapedi had finished his matric the year before and had decided to take a gap year.He had enrolled with Wits University to do a journalism degree and the knock happened a few months before he was supposed to register. This meant that he would not be able to afford the fees. Things were so bad that his father struggled to give him the registration fee. He gave up without even putting up a fight. He therefore did not go to university because his parents could not afford it. He took the knock very hard, blaming everything on his father and not wasting any moment in telling his parents that they destroyed his chances of a successful life and a university degree.
“Shooting Muvhango has been a great experience. I just hope the viewers will warm up to this character. Being part of the soapie has also helped propel my career to the next level. Muvhango is one of the leading soapies and working here is a dream come true,” said Makapan.
Makapan is a South African actor last seen on one of SABC soapies. In 2010 he joined the main cast of the SABC2 sitcom Rasdien in the role of Herbert, a big BEE type who always gets involved in tenders and proposals. Makapan graduated from the Tshwane University of Technology in 2004. While attending the university he performed in a variety of theatre productions including Ancient Stars, I Stand Before You Naked, inside (looking in) and Final Chapter and shot two student short films – 47 Grains and Neonsprokie.
