Monique Bingham and Black Motion have been added to the line-up at the BET Experience Africa, the continent’s definitive celebration of urban lifestyle and contemporary culture. Monique and Black Motion will join previously announced performers Nathi and DJ Euphonik on the Festival Stage at the BET Experience Africa (Ticketpro Dome, 12 December). Maxwell, Raphael Saadiq, Tamar Braxton, Young Thug, AKA, Flavour and Diamond Platnumz are also set to perform at the BET Experience Concert.
New York-born vocalist Monique Bingham brings her soulful jazz- infused brand of house music to South Africa for the BET Experience Africa 2015. After two decades in the recording industry, Monique has become a welcome visitor to Mzansi shores, having made her debut performance at the 12th annual Cape Town International Jazz Festival in 2011, and performed her song “Pride” live at the Metro FM awards (2013). In 2014, she collaborated with jazz legend Hugh Masakela when she penned the song “With Her Hand” with Ralf Gum for his sophomore album “In My City”. A further single with Ralf Gum entitled “The Pap” has already received international critical acclaim and reinforced her love of and contribution to South Africa’s explosive house music scene. In 2015, Monique collaborated with Black Coffee on the track “Deep in the Bottom (of Africa)”.
Gold–selling dance duo Black Motion have been a fixture on the South African dance scene since 2010 when DJ Murder and Smol’s breakout single “Banane Mavoko” hit the bigtime and thrust them to the attention of DJ Oskido, who included the track in his compilation CD, “Oskido’s 10th Commandment” before signing them to Kalawa Records. Their first double CD album, Talking to the Drums followed, including hit tracks like Father, Caraca and Dimensions. Their long-awaited third album Fortune Teller, came out in 2014 and subsequently underlined their dominance of the dance genre, taking home the silverware at SAMA XX1 (2015) for “Best Dance Album”. Busier than ever, in September 2015 it was announced that the dynamic duo will be collaborating with Cassper Nyovest on a track on his hotly anticipated album, Refiloe.
