Siyabonga Twala as Mpiyakhe Zungu on Isibaya

MpiyakheSiyabonga Twala was born and raised in the Umlazi Township in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Thwala began acting in 1989. Thwala is a South African actor best known for his role as the ruthless publisher Vusi Zwane in the e.tv soapie Scandal!, from 10 January 2005 to 21 May 2007. He starred as Paul Mashaba, Kenneth’s (Seputla Sebogodi) brother, on the SABC1 soapie Generations, from 2007-2010.

He also has a starring role as Mpiyakhe Zungu, a high profile taxi boss and savvy political player and leader, in the Mzansi Magic telenovela-turned-soap-opera isiBaya. He won the inaugural Outstanding Lead Actor award at the Royalty Soapie Awards in March 2014 for this role.

About the character (Mpiyakhe Zungu)

Mpiyakhe Zungu is a high profile taxi boss. Savvy political player and leader. He has a ‘road to damascus’ moment when his daughter is nearly killed in a taxi shootout. He realizes violence is not a viable alternative and envisions a new peace. As a young man Mpiyakhe was a consummate stick fighter and very popular with women.

      isibaya is Mpiyakhe…he can’t die . we luv him plz bring him back. make Qaphela or Beauty die not Zungu. they shot Mkabayi and now Mpiyakhe. Aybo….

    I dnt thnk Isibaya will b de same without Zungu, I rly like Isibaya n I Neva missed any episode since de soapie started in 2013, Bt if Zungu leave de soapie, many followers of Isibaya are gng to feel pain, we Lov Zungu

    Indeed there is no reason for as well to watch Isibaya without my brother Mpiyakhe Zungu. The man is given. Whatever he wants give it to him.

    So if mpiyake Zungu is leaving Isibaya then the producers don’t really promote peace but instead they’re promoting violence because Zungu was promoting peace and stability and development
