Skeem Saam writer, Phathu Makwarela, cries racism on SAFTAs

The writer of SABC1 soapie ‘Skeem Saam’, Phathu Makwarela, is expressing racism on the announced nominations of SAFTAs10.

Venting her disappointment on twitter, Phathu wrote, “For years you continue to laud and award flawed obsecure content because they produced by the big 4 production houses” #SATFAS10

He further twitted, “The racist #SAFTAS10 voting clique can award each other awards but they will never award each other viewers #SATFAS10SOWHITE”

None of the black produced soapies such as, Skeem Saam, Muvhango and Generations The Legacy was nominated.

While Phathu has symphasizers, some people also independently lambasted SAFTAS10 on twitter.

FYI: Phatutshedzo Makwarela was born in the rural village of Mamvuka in Limpopo and he also writes for SABC1 telenovela Uzalo and Mzansi Magic drama series Rockville.
