Afrikaans Pop Star, Karlien Van Jaarsveld and Devon Snell were crowned as the winning couple of Strictly Come Dancing season eight. The dazzling finale was broadcast live from the Renaissance Centre at the SABC from 19:30, 7th August 2015.
After ten gruelling weeks of agony, waterworks, anguish, bliss and smiles, Karlien Van Jaarsveld and Devon Snell came up tops in an impressive finale against Leigh-Anne and Johannes to be crowned queen and king of Strictly Come Dancing.
This year’s Strictly Come Dancing show was once again co-hosted by the dashing duo Roxy Burger and Katlego Maboe. Ready to dish out critiques and praise was the popular panel of judges consisting of Michael Wentink, Tebogo Kgobokoe and Samantha Peo.
Karlien Van Jaarsveld and Devon Snell, Expresso presenter Leigh-Anne Williams and Johannes Radebe and Muvhango star, Nkululeko Tshirumbula paired with Nombulelo Hlathi competed this evening for the chance to hold up the most sought-after Strictly Come Dancing trophy in this year’s riveting SABC3 celebrity dance contest.
The glittering evening kick started with a group number choreographed by Ryan Hammond. This was followed by each of the final three couples dancing their freestyle routines. Contestants performed their hearts out with Karlien getting her first perfect score and Nkuli getting his personal best score. The evening did not get off to a good start for Leigh-Anne and her partner Johannes.
“Absolutely fantastic, you belong in the final. That is the quality of dance,” said Michael about Karlien’s performance. While Samantha commented on Nkulu’s performance as, “Dynamic, sexy and really authentic.”
Keeping the audience and viewers entertained was Monark who performed “Something”.
The trio proved they’ve got the proficiency to light up the dance floor in an exhilarating finale. The competition was ferocious as they went all out in a bid to be crowned the king and queen of Strictly Come Dancing 2015.
The three finalists were hungry for the title but inevitably one couple had to be eliminated. Forlornly Nkululeko Tshirumbula and Nombulelo Hlathi had to bid farewell to their dream, the journey for them had come to an end.
The show continued with the top two who performed their judges’ choice routine. The song chosen for them by the judges this season was “Raging Fire” by Philip Philips. The top two demonstrated why they deserved to be in the final by delivering the most captivating performances for the Judge’s Choice as well as their favourite dance from the season earning Leigh-Anne and Johannes another perfect score.
The crowd gave Leigh-Anne and Johannes a standing ovation with screams of “we want more” bringing Leigh-Anne to tears for her favourite performance. That’s how you dance a final. You danced it like a champion, said Tebogo. “You know what we want and you gave it,” she continued.
The pressure was on and it was tough. Karlien and Devon took to the floor with their favourite performance of the waltz giving them another perfect score. “It was a powerful performance and a finale of note,” said Tebogo.
Winning over viewer’s hearts – and their SMS votes – with their thoroughly impressive performances throughout the competition, Afrikaans Pop Star, Karlien Van Jaarsveld and Devon Snell walked away with the trophy and the title.
