dstv-deliciousSouth Africa’s biggest food and music extravaganza, the DStv Delicious International Food & Music Festival presented by Nedbank, is back in Johannesburg in June with a mouth-watering feast of food-glorious-food that will take visitors on a global culinary journey while also exposing them to latest trends and new flavours.

Get ready to take your tastebuds on this food adventure which takes place at the Waterfall Polo Estate in Midrand on Saturday, 6 June.

The Delicious Restaurant, hosted by jovial MasterChef judge, raconteur and food lover Pete Goffe-Wood, offers a menu packed with flavour.

For starters, there’s a steaming seafood ragout with a hint of Noilly Prat and saffron and baked with a pastry lid; the clean flavours of venison carpaccio; a creamy duck liver praline served with home-made chutney; a juicy fillet steak Vigneron with special herb butter on a rich cabernet jus and melt-in-the-mouth oxtail gateaux are on the menu for mains, while diners can wrap up the sumptuous feast with decadent Lindt chocolate mousse with a fudge sauce; and a smooth peach panacotta and creamy camembert with home-made oatmeal biscuits in the dessert line-up.

The menu is priced at R550 per person. There will be three sittings: at Noon, 15:00 and 18:00.

Want to learn how to create magic in your own kitchen? There will be live demonstrations and exciting cooking showdowns at the Food Network pavilion by Food Network celebrity chefs Reza Mahammad, Siba Mtongana and Jenny Morris.

The Delicious Market is a feast of cultures set to take you on a taste journey across the globe. The festival is putting up an international spread on the local Jozi map. With street food inspired and influenced by the diverse cultures and experiences of the people that get the heat on be it the lone chef, old family recipes, innovative ideas and driving the trends such as smoking, banting, organic produce, unbleached wheat – all will be available.

Festival visitors will be spoilt for choice with Greek souvlaki, homemade Italian pasta and authentic pizza, Turkish flatbread, Belgian waffles, French crepes, Balkan burgers, East African meat, soup and Bilau, Argentinian grilled meats, Indian samoosas, Mozambican coconuts, Thai satays and money bags, Mexican soft corn tacos and quesadillas, Latin American churros, Polish smoked meats, Jamaican jerk curry, Spanish paella, Dutch poffetjies, Middle Eastern flat breads and Persian cordials that make up just a small selection in this cornucopia of all things edible and just plain scrumptious.

There will be a celebration of South African heritage with Shisa Nyama including flamed grilled succulent ribs and wings. Vetkoek and gourmet boerie rolls are also on the cards guaranteed to get you licking your fingers and put a stop to any hunger pains.

Remember to visit Wood’s legendary Kitchen Cowboys who will plate up their infamous pork belly sandwiches; try out peri peri chicken from Poppy’s; duck spring rolls courtesy of Breyer’s Deli; deep fried pap balls with cheese and spicy ox livers from Nexdor; brisket with Jack Daniels gravy from Barking Dog; Halaal mutton burgers from Azziza’s; grilled cheese from On the Counter; falafel and chicken wraps served with the ‘greatest hummus in the land’ according to Delicious, The Organic People; drunken chicken from Amexicano and Chinese curry from Family Affair.

Visitors will be able to get their sweet on with confectionery of all kinds – from colourful candy floss, light-as-a-feather cupcakes and rich fudge to authentic Italian gelato and ice-cream as well as gourmet milkshakes. There’s the latest in craft jam jars; organic cordials made with handpicked fruits and superfood juices to keep you healthy this winter.

So whether you are vegan or a carnivore; Banting or hard to please; super-healthy or simply greedy, Delicious has got something that will get your taste buds doing the tango.

Delicious promises both a feast of food as well as world-class entertainment from a line-up that includes multiple award winning Queen of Funk Chaka Khan, the godfather of the house music scene ‘Little’ Louie Vega and Drizabone alongside local music acts Vusi Mahlasela, Muzart, The Muffinz and DJ Unathi Nkayi.

General access tickets are R450 per person, Delicious lounge tickets are R900 per person; decadence luxury lounge tickets are R3500 per person; and children under 12-years-old can gain access for R200 per child.
