The Boss himself, Buddy Valastro took time out of his busy appearance at this year’s Good Food & Wine Show in Cape Town to stop by the TLC Entertainment stand and talk about his upcoming season of the smash-hit series Cake Boss and how it feels to be back on the sunny Western Cape.
Speaking to a packed crowd of journalists, Buddy expressed his excitement at bringing Cake Boss back to South African screens for its seventh season, which will premiere this November on TLC Entertainment (DStv channel 172), the #1 Lifestyle channel for Adults 15+ and Women 20-49.
Cake Boss season 7 will show Buddy and the family getting back to basics in the kitchen, continuing to mix enticing ingredients of his family, friends and employees with the added spice of international customers, special guest stars and celebrities, and baking styles that have made the show such a success. Buddy Valastro hosted shows are a favourite afternoon and evening destination for South African TLC viewers, comprising 60% of the top 10 most watched shows during this period on TLC in 2015 so far.
During the media event Lee Hobbs, VP of Channels, Emerging Business, Discovery Networks CEEMEA, exclusively revealed the launch date for TLC’s Next Great Presenter, the channel’s previously announced campaign to find its first local presenter.
From Sunday 9 August (South Africa Women’s Day) the campaign to uncover a local TLC host will begin, calling for all TLC super-fans from across Africa who believe they have what it takes to be the next Buddy, Oprah or Randy and crowned TLC’s Next Great Presenter.
“South Africa Women’s Day is the perfect opportunity for us to give back to our TLC fans and launch this fantastic campaign which will see one lucky winner get the chance to present a brand new show on TLC,” said Lee Hobbs. “We know how vocal our TLC fans are and I’m certain we’ll get a tremendous response when the competition officially opens on August 9th and look forward to receiving all the brilliant entries.”
The search for TLC’s Next Great Presenter will begin with a call-to-action for viewers to submit video clips of their presenting skills explaining why they should be chosen. A panel of experts will whittle down a shortlist, but it will be up to the TLC viewers to choose the lucky winner who will get the chance to present TLC Top 10 – a brand new series coming to TLC later this year, which celebrates the biggest and most popular shows that have broadcast on the channel since it launched in South Africa in 2011.
Ahead of the competition’s official launch, Capetonian TLC viewers will have the chance to hone their presenting skills and get their entries in early by visiting the special TLC Next Great Presenter themed stand at the Good Food & Wine Show at the Cape Town Convention Centre. Open all weekend (Saturday 23rd May from 10am-9pm and again on Sunday 24th May from 10am-6pm), our cameras will be ready to capture any budding TV stars.
Further details as to how to enter TLC’s Next Great Presenter competition will be announced closer to the launch date.
